In this era of the pandemic, remote interviews have become the norm and it looks like it is about to stay. Virtual interviews are new and different ballgame for both interviewers and interviewees. While just like a face to face interview, a lot of factors go into making a final decision post-interview, there is an area where every interviewee falters for a bit - dry run. To the uninitiated dry-run is the process of taking a test case and running it through your code and verifying the values at each point and the final answer. Dry runs are pretty intuitive when done on a paper where the developer can see the example and maintain the variable values as and when we run through them. Interviewees tend to follow the same model in remote interviews. This puts the interviewer at a disadvantage as he cannot visualise the cases as you do. So, what would I suggest you use to do a virtual dry run? Comments. Use comments to mention the test cases, the variable values in loops or recursive functions and the dry run is visible and easy to follow for the interviewer as well.
